Charlie Lee, a crossing guard in Leonia, risked his life to save a mother and daughter after a car came speeding around the block, ignoring the stop sign.

Lee, who has been a crossing guard for 15 years, says he was just doing his job.  Lee jumped in front of the mother pushing her daughter in the stroller across the street to keep them from getting hit.

Lee, who emigrated from Korea, answered a newspaper ad for a crossing guard job in 2001. He has been doing it ever since, and he has put his life on the line before.  In May of 2015, a driver hit Lee while on the job. He went to the hospital to be checked out, but Lee did not miss a single shift.  That’s dedication!

Thank you, Charlie Lee, for helping to keep Leonia safe!  And you are a great example of a New Jersey Safe Routes to School Champion!
