School policies play an important role in determining how students get to and from school each day.  However, information on the consistency and types of policies that exist on active travel (walking, bicycling, skateboarding, etc.) to school is limited.  This research examined school policies on active travel in one county in New Jersey — Middlesex County.  All 165 public schools in Middlesex County were contacted and surveyed to determine whether policies on active travel existed and collected specifics about the policies (grades affected, modes, etc.)  The results of the surveys were compiled and summarized along with inferences based on the data and suggestions for changing and clarifying school policies.
