Schools and communities hoping to identify barriers to walking and biking to schools in their neighborhood now have a new tool to help them: The Walkability Assessment video. Walkability assessments evaluate sidewalk, road, and neighborhood conditions in the areas surrounding a school and help schools identify ways to make the walking experience safer, more comfortable, and more accessible to all. They can be done by any parents, students, or neighbors wishing to welcome walking and biking in their community.

This 3-minute video identifies key steps that anyone can follow to conduct a walkability assessment: forming a team of stakeholders, plan a route, choose a time and date, prepare materials, record observations, and debrief. Watch the video now.walkabilityvideo
