Wednesday October 9th is International Walk to School Day– a great day for kicking off Walk and Bike to School Month by joining students, parents, and community leaders from New Jersey and around the world for a healthy and fun walk to school. According to the International Walk to School in the USA website, maintained by the National Center for Safe Routes to School, as of the writing of this article there are already 3,809 walk and bike to school events registered throughout the United States in 2013! New Jersey currently accounts for 114 of those registered events, with more events to be registered soon!
If you haven’t planned a walk and bike to school event for this October, it’s not too late. Regional Safe Routes to School Coordinators at the state’s eight Transportation Management Associations are ready and willing to offer advice and assistance in getting programs off the ground in communities in all of New Jersey’s 21 counties.
