If you live or work in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester or Salem Counties, Cross County Connection TMA is your Transportation Management Association (TMA). Cross County Connection’s mission is to improve the quality of life in southern New Jersey through transportation solutions. To do this, Cross County Connection works with counties, municipalities, employers, schools and commuters in its seven-county region to offer numerous services that promote and facilitate the use of commute alternatives, including car/vanpooling, public transit, bicycling and walking.

Cross County Connection supports walking and bicycling in southern New Jersey by offering technical assistance and implementing activities customized to the needs of each school or community they work with. While Cross County Connection offers a variety of fun and informative programs, one of the most popular is their Golden Sneaker Walking Challenge.  Students participate in The Golden Sneaker Walking Challenge as part of a team with their classmates that challenges an opposing team of classmates. The team with the most steps wins! The competition can be between classes, grade levels, or in some school districts, even between schools. Cross County Connection provides pedometers and detailed program materials to ensure a smooth rollout and works with schools to set-up a ceremony to recognize the winning team as well as the accomplishments of all who participate. Children who participate are always amazed to learn that their class walked enough steps to reach some far away location like the Empire State Building!

Cross County Connection TMA has worked hard to adapt their programming to remain engaging to children while maintaining necessary social distance.  An example of this effort can be seen in the new “Drive By Helmet Fitting” program.  Cross County Connection has partnered with Safe Kids of Southern New Jersey to develop a minimum contact helmet fitting consisting of several stations: a sign-in station where parents receive a pen, a station where parents will receive a measurement tape to take their child(ren)’s measurements, and a station where parents will receive the corresponding, free helmet in their trunk.
