Though 2021 was a challenging year, the NJ Safe Routes Resource Center met those challenges head-on and enjoyed many successes, including:
- Recognizing 160 schools and municipalities through the NJ Safe Routes Recognition Program in coordination with NJDOT and the eight Transportation Management Associations (TMAs) in NJ
- Hosting the annual Safe Routes Academy in coordination with the 2021 NJ Walk & Bike Summit
- Hosting the first-ever New Jersey Trails & Greenways Summit, sponsored by NJDOT and NJDEP
- Releasing four research reports studying health, safety, and school benefits of safe routes programs, the benefits of safe routes programs for community cohesion, school zone safety strategies, and improving safety in school zones on state highways
- Working with the NJ Bicycle & Pedestrian Resource Center to host the sixth biennial New Jersey Complete Streets Summit sponsored by NJ Department of Transportation
- Developing and posting videos about use of the NJ Crossing Guard Post Observation Report form, use of the Stop Paddle, How to Fit a Helmet, the 8 Steps of the Crossing Procedure, and the ABC Quick Check before your bike ride.
- Partnering with NJDOT to lead and advance Strategic Highway Safety Plan actions related to vulnerable road users, automated speed enforcement, and crossing guard and student safety
Thank you to the many organizations and individuals we have worked with throughout 2021 for your partnership and support. We look forward to working with you again in the new year to continue working toward safe routes for everyone, and safe routes everywhere!
